16 Ways To Make Money As A Teen

Hey, girl! Making money as a teen isn’t easy, and sometimes you aren’t able to get a job at a local store or shop yet. So, I’m here to help you out and give you a list of things you can do to make money as a teen! I tried to list things that most people would be able to do so I hope this is helpful!

How To Make Money As A Teen:

#1. Babysit

I babysit all the time for friends and family and it’s something you can do when you are fairly young too. I took a babysitting course where I live which isn’t mandatory, but it is nice to have. I started babysitting when I was around 13. I have a whole series dedicated to babysitting tips and tricks and the whole process of being the best babysitter you can be πŸ™‚ Check out the blog series here!

#2. Open an Etsy Shop

I’ve had my Etsy shop, Maddison + Co, open for quite a few months now and I have honestly had so much fun designing different prints and designs for my shop. I sell downloadable wall art prints on my shop πŸ™‚ Etsy is perfect for helping you make money off our your hobbies and crafts! You could sell jewelry, your paintings, or whatever else is your passion! My biggest tip is to stay creative and be original with whatever you sell so you stand out! If you are interested, you can check out my Etsy shop here!

#3 Sell Your Old Clothes

Just the other day, I dropped off some clothes at a really cool thrift store that has trendy name brand clothes for teens and young adults. There are tons of different ways to sell your clothes to make some money. There are apps like Depop, Thredup, Vinted, Poshmark,Β  and I’ve seen people make an account on Instagram to sell clothes too. Or you can drop off your clothes at a local thrift store to make a couple bucks too!

#4 Teach Lessons

I teach piano lessons to 6 little kids and I absolutely love it! I have played piano for about 10 years and I’ve been teaching lessons for about 2 years now. If you have an instrument that you are really good at, and if you like kids, I encourage you to make a poster and start teaching lessons! If you are good at painting, or jewelry making or anything like that too you could do a painting class or jewelry lessons!

#5 Sell Your Old Room Decor

Tired of your old room decor? I know I am always switching out my room decor and I never have space for all of it at once. Another way to try to make some quick cash is selling your old room decor pieces! You could try selling your decor on Facebook garage sale boards in your area, selling to friends, or you could even trying apps like Offerup or Charish!

#6 Sell Goods At A Farmer’s Market

If you have a vegetable or fruit garden at home you could sell your produce at a farmer’s market! Or maybe you know how to make jam, honey, or anything else you could sell at a local market!

#7 Sell Stock Photography

If love photography and have some amazing photos, selling your photos to a stock photography website is a quick and easy way to make a little money! I’m not really sure of the process to sell photos on sites like Shutterstock and that sort of thing, but I would reccomend checking out Freepik and there is an article here that you can read with a list of sites to sell photos on! Check out the blog post here.

#8 Dog Walking

Honestly, who doesn’t love dogs? They are sooo cute and I think it would be so fun to get paid to walk a few adorable dogs. If there are any elderly or busy families in your neighborhood with a dog or any pets you could offer to walk their pets a couple of times a week. Or, if they go on vacation you could offer to feed the pets while they are gone!

#9 Ask Your Parents For Jobs

Often times, you parents might have odd jobs they need done around the house that they might be willing to pay you for. I have chores that I do every week but sometimes if there is a big job that isn’t one of my regular jobs my parents will pay me for it. I used to do this a lot when I was younger and wanted a new room decor piece from Walmart or something, haha πŸ˜‚

#10 Lifeguard

I only have a few more swimming levels to go and then I can become a lifeguard! I think it would be a really fun summer job and great for a side job for when you are in university or college. I’ve heard it pays really well and you would get a nice tan if it’s an outdoor pool πŸ˜‰

#11 Referee A Game

If you are really good at a sport and knowledgable of the rules, you could definitely become a referee! Depending on the sport, you might have to take a small referee test or course but it pays well for someone young and then you also get to watch the game at the same time!

#12 Deliver Papers

The good ol’ fashion delivering papers. It’s an easy way to make some quick cash and it’s not too challenging which makes for a great quick and easy job! ☺

#13 Tutor

Tutoring is a perfect side job for teenagers and quite a few people need tutors for their classes! You could advertise with posters around your school or send a message to a few people you know. You could tutor a couple below a few grades below you and it would be a great way to make some money!

#14 Raking Leaves/Shoveling Snow

Depending on the season and where you live, you could always shovel snow, mow lawns, or rake leaves for some extra cash! It’s a fairly easy small job and not a huge commitement which is perfect!

#15 Sell Your Baking

Are you amazing at baking? You could make some batches of cookies to sell to your neighbours or friends! Or you could tell people and teachers at your school and start taking orders of different deserts you know how to make! If you are talented at baking cakes you could even make custom cakes for big occasions!

#16 Paint Nails

Do you love painting your nails? There are some really cool courses you can take on how to do gel nails and once you buy your supplies and everything you could advertise on Facebook or instagram that you are doing nails! You could start by doing them for free to gain experience and then slowly start charging people! If you are in college and you have lots of people in your dorm building that want their nails done it’s a perfect situation, ta-da!

That’s all for the different ways to make money as a teen! What did you think? I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while but I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet but I’m so glad I finally did πŸ™‚

Do you have a job or do any of these things to make money? Which idea was your favourite and which one do you want to try? Let me know in the comments!

I LOVE this post! I babysit and I really like doing it. How much do you make babysitting? I make about $25 a day (if I babysit all day). Each family I babysit for has different amounts they give me. πŸ™‚ I love the idea of teaching piano lessons! I love playing the piano so I should try this! Also selling bake goods might be a thing I should try. Thank you for the post!
