8 Tips to Taking Better iPhone Pics

photos, iPhone, photography

Hey girl, welcome to this weekend’s post, How To Take Better iPhone Photos & My 8 Tips! I LOVE taking photos of literally everything. My food, sunsets, selfies with friends, seriously anything, you name it! You don’t have to have a big fancy camera to take nice photos. Iphones work really well if you know how to use them, so today, I am giving you my top tips on how to take better photos with your phone.

The grid is soooo helpful. Once you turn it on, I swear you will never go back. To turn it on you go into settings, photos, and then grid on. It will then show a grid on your screen when you go to take a photo. It’s super helpful to make sure your object is lined up straight or to use the rule of thirds…which takes me to my next point!

The rule of thirds is definitely a super cool little hack if you want your photos to be more appealing and interesting. All you need to do is make sure your subject is lined up on a “third line” versus the center of your shot. I am really bad at explaining this, so I recommend looking at pictures on trusty good ol’ Google. As you can see in this photo, my Polaroid (subject of the photo) is on a “third line” versus being in the center of the picture.

I pretty much never use my flash just because it really takes down the quality of your photo. Unless it’s a shot that is super dark and flash is absolutely necessary, I would definitely recommend no flash. You should see an option to turn it off in the top left-hand corner on an iPhone.

Unfocused photos are the worst thing every! (okay..not really, but they do suck). To avoid blurry photos, click andhold on the screen where you want the camera to focus. When you hold your finger on the screen it should lock the focus and show “AE/AF LOCK”. You can still make small adjustments to your shot, and the frame will still be in focus!

This one seems kind of obvious, but after you take your photo, just hold the camera still for a second before moving. Sometimes, your phone shutter can be slow, and when you move it hasn’t finished the photo yet, giving you a super blurry photo.

MARBLE BACKGROUNDS ARE EVERYTHING. If you are taking flat lay photos or photos of a particular subject on a surface, play around with your backgrounds. I LOVE using my marble slab (I got for 2$ at Home Depot) which is seriously goals (perfect for a trendy Insta pic, am I right?. Gotta keep up with the trends my friends. I also use my white faux fur rug, white poster board (from the Dollar Store), scrapbook paper (the wood-like prints are so cool, I recommend looking at Micheal’s), blankets, and pretty much whatever I can find. Playing around with different backgrounds and textures will definitely help you get an amazing shot!

Lighting can make or break yourphoto. No doubt about it. When taking blog pictures or flat lays, I like to place my background and props by a window. Often I will have a window in front of me casting light on my shot. Natural light, most times, looks so much better than artificial light. I would say 90% of all my photos are using natural light. Natural light is your best friend in photos, seriously.

Last but not least, editing. Editing can seriously do wonders to a photo. I am all about those filters, but definitely nothing too crazy. Usually, I adjust the brightness, contrast, and a few others things. I mostly use the VSCO app (free). If you just want to see another post on how I edit pictures, feel free to let me know ๐Ÿ™‚

ย I really love photography, and I’ve been doing a lot of research on it and getting into it a lot more lately. So, as a result, I am throwing around the idea of having like a mini photography type series? Maybe tips on taking flat lay photos or selfies or something like that. Totally let me know if that is something you guys are interested in (you can use the contact box)! I hope you all have a great day, thanks so much for reading <3

Ps. If you subscribe to my blog you will get a special thank you gift from me that I created!!! (It may or may not be super cute desktop wallpapers)
