Thank goodness I have grandparents and two sets of uncles on Vancouver Island, because it definitely gives me the perfect excuse to visit every summer. Every time we go we explore something new, but we also sometimes revisit our favorite places, because why not? I can’t wait to share my adventures with you, so just keep reading 😀
Vancouver Island is so beautiful and not to mention nice and warm all year round, unlike where I live. I have so many memories there from previous summers and now my recent trip, that it really has a special place in my heart, and always will.
One of my favorite things about Vancouver Island is the passion of the people. Most people who live there love the outdoors and for the most part, respect it and cherish it. Which honestly is super cool.
The view from the airplane travelling there was gorgeous, and of course I just have to share some pictures from flying over the Rockies and the ocean…
One of the first things we did right after getting off the plane was heading to a specific warf where sea lions play and hang around at. Sadly, we missed them again, but it was a beautiful day and the reflection on the water off the trees was breathtaking.
I love at my Nana’s house, I can literally walk five minutes to see the ocean and walk along the beach. I am definitely a water person and I’m a huge fan of watersports and the lake, but’s it is cool to enjoy the ocean as well. I am so grateful the weather held up and we could get a few beach days in. The day we went the tide was extremely low, but it’s amazing how far you can walk through the small pools of warm water to get to the ocean.
Ps. How cool is this old fashioned coca-cola I got? I swear it tastes better in the glass bottle 😉
Oh, and I must mention the flowers! My Nana has the most gorgeous yard filled with bright-colored flowers and succulents. I seriously spent about ten minutes awing at her flowers and taking pictures of them, no joke.
Last but not least, one of my Uncle’s loves the outdoors and often takes us on the craziest adventures and different river spots and boy, do I have a story for you.
So all five of us total wanted to find a place where we could tube down the river, because how fun would that be?!? However, it was later in the day and the closest tubing down the river place was an hour and a half away. So, we decided, “Okay, let’s do our own!” (Great idea right?)
Now we are at the river, four tubes in hand (one is a double) and we have our action plan. We are going to start at one side of the bridge, float about five-hundred meters, and then we can hop off at the other side of the bridge where the trail is to get back in our cars, awesome, right?
All is well, we’re having a great time, but we are at the end of our ride 🙁 As we kept on floating we realized, “Hey, we can keep floating around the bend!” So we do and we have seriously the best time.
My amazing Mom packed some snacks and I am floating down the river with my aunty (We’re in the double). We even had an occurrence with some leaves (a.k.a there was leaves hanging on the side of the river and we accidentally went right through them), and lots of little mini rapids (which was SO fun).
Two hours later… shoot…
We knew this was coming, but as my Aunty kept saying, Carpe Diem!
Thankfully, my Uncle has his phone and started using the GPS to find out where we were we could hop off at and where my Nana could drive in and pick us up at.
Eventually, we come across a spot along the river where we can hop off onto land, so we do. We grab the tubes out of water as my Uncle runs ahead to see if there is a road nearby.
And you wouldn’t believe it, it was seriously a miracle… There was a road right there, and guess who just somehow happened to be on that road, my Nana! It was crazy how our adventure just somehow worked itself out and my Nana was able to locate us by my Uncle’s directions over the phone.
Anyway, sorry for the incredibly long story but I just had to share, have you ever had a Carpe Diem moment? If so, I want to hear it!
Sadly, I didn’t have my phone or camera to take pictures of this incredible adventure, but it is definitely a memory I will cherish forever.
Buuuut, we did go to an amazing river the day before to swim, so here are some pictures from that.
Alright, so I have one last quick story for you, and if you’ve stuck around this far, you’re the real MVP!
So, after a great week-long trip, it was time to fly home. We were on our way to the airport, it was my birthday the next day, we were driving, and then we realized, wait a minute… we missed our turn… We made the next U-turn possible and arrived at the airport 30 minutes before take-off. (You are supposed to be there 45 minutes early) but they had already closed the baggage area or something like that. Now I was pretty disappointed because it was my birthday the next day, I wanted to see my Dad, I hadn’t been home in two and a half weeks, and I was worried I wouldn’t make it home in time for my birthday.
The airline company was really amazing and re-booked our fights for us, no charge, and even bumped us up to first-class. My mom told him it was my birthday the next day, and how disappointed I was.
Three hours later, we got on a new flight. And I do have to say, First Class was pretty cool. (I have never been in FC before) I think my favorite part was the complimentary snacks, which I ordered Pringles and a Kit Kat 😀
Now we had arrived in a major center, where we had a five-hour layover before our last flight. Finally, it was time to board our next flight, and we weren’t supposed to be in First Class again, but apparently, thanks to my Mom, we got First Class again, and when the flight attendants found out it was my birthday the next day, you wouldn’t believe what they gave me!
I mean, WOW, look at those snacks!
Later that night, we were just rolling into town when the clocked ticked 12:00 and it was officially my birthday, and that’s how my crazy adventure ended 🙂 Till the next one, of course 😉
I really hoped you enjoyed this travel diary, and thank you a TON for reading to the end, I know it was a long one 🙂 Let me know if you liked this post, and don’t forget to tell me all about a Carpe Diem moment you’ve had or if you’ve ever been to B.C, Canada! Talk to you next weekend <3
